Vancouver Coffee Academy started in 2012 as a SCAA training center and then became a Premier training campus in 2017 after the unification of the SCAA and SCAE. We started with only one instructor, John Sanders. John has over 35 years of experience in ARTISAN Roasting, Brewing, SOURCING FINE Green coffee's, training professional Barista's and developing ones palate through SENSORY training. Now in 2024 the SCA has reconfigured their educational pathways into 4 distinct categories.

Each Diploma requires 10 classes, in increasing difficulty. It requires a MINIMUM of 112 hours of instruction through Theory and Practical discussions and exercises. In our schedule you have a MINIMUM of 128 hours. Each class comes with a study guide, recommended reading guides, and a REAL WORLD DISCUSSION on each topic. (see below about additional AST's). At VCA we Prioritize Practical exercises as we believe practice makes a better education. We allow an additional amount of time each student is offered to practice, based on their class schedule. Every 8 hour class receives 2 hours of additional training time, scheduled in on Tuesday - Thursday. So if someone was to achieve a full diploma they would receive 32 hours MINIMUM extra Practical time.  Combined with class instruction you will have a MINIMUM of 160 hours! Certain conditions Apply!

 

VCA would like to take this time to announce that we have 4 additional AST's (Authorized Specialty Coffee Trainer) becoming licensed to teach classes. Together we total over 70+ years of experience. This allows us to give each topic very valuable practical experience instead of "INTERNET EXPERT EXPERIENCE". It also allows for more scheduling and frequency of classes.  We only allow a maximum class size of 6 people per class, for Foundation and Intermediate level and STRICTLY 4 in ALL PROFESSIONAL LEVEL CLASSES! 

 

The class schedule released (starting September 20, 2024) on the website allows an individual to ACHIEVE a Diploma, by the end of the 1st quarter of 2025!
